From India to Ireland – A few things you should know

When you think about Ireland, chances are that images of St. Patrick’s Day revelry and leprechauns immediately populate your mind. However, there’s more to Ireland than these clichés. Ireland is a friendly and safe English speaking country which serves as the European headquarters of many global IT and pharmaceutical companies. This makes it a great destination for international students pursuing higher studies. Here are some of the great things about studying in Ireland:

  • World Class Universities
  • Friendly People
  • Unspoiled Natural Beauty

Indian students will find that their ability to communicate in English makes their study in Ireland  plans a great higher education option for them.

Small but Active Indian Diaspora

While the Indian diaspora in Ireland may not be as large as that in the United States or the United Kingdom, it is nevertheless quite active. It is not uncommon for Bollywood nights and festive celebrations to dot the annual calendar of Indian cultural associations, especially in a major city like Dublin. It is even possible to get your favorite Indian masalas and condiments grocery stores, although it may be somewhat expensive.

Post Study Work Visa

Most Indian students going abroad either look to migrate permanently or at least work a few years before returning to India, and Ireland gives you the opportunity to do just that. A 2 year Post Study Work Visa is an option for graduating Masters and Postgraduate Diploma students, while graduating Bachelors (Hons) students get a similar 1 year option to stay on and work.

A Chance of Permanent Residency

Ireland also provides options for gaining the coveted permanent residency status via the General Employment Permit and the Critical Skills Employment Permit.

If you are an Indian student looking to study in Ireland you can be sure that the Emerald Isle merits careful consideration. Irish people are known for their warmth and hospitality, and their gregarious nature. Moreover, no matter what your chosen stream is, a degree from Ireland is sure to stand you in good stead throughout your career.
